Here’s What Rick Wants Everyone to Know
My name is Rick Pourchot. I have been with VTR Learning since 2017 and am currently the CEO. Even though I received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma, I have enjoyed the transition into online continuing education.
I was born and raised in Shawnee, Oklahoma. However, I currently live in Boston with my wife and am a stay-at-home dad to our two children. I enjoy water skiing, snow skiing, and playing the piano. Although, those hobbies have become difficult while holding one child and having the other ride on my back. I love going on adventures with my family, whether that’s taking the train to a new destination, visiting a nearby beach, or boating on the lakes in New Hampshire.
Here’s How Rick Answered Our Five Questions
What’s some of the best advice you’ve ever received?
To enroll in a Dale Carnegie Leadership Course. Carnegie’s lessons have taught me more about myself and the person I have the power to become. I strive to be “interested rather than interesting” in order to connect with people on a more personal level. His books also inspire me to improve my character, so I can continue to develop better versions of myself.
What is your biggest personal goal for the rest of 2022?
Making it a point to spend more quality time with my children. I hope I can become more mentally present during these special times in their childhood. It’s easy to become distracted by life’s situations, so I am striving to focus more on my kids with undivided attention.
If you could Learn about any subject, what would it be?
Cartography. I am fascinated by maps, both geographical and geopolitical. I can stare at them for hours while discovering more and more about our world. I find it interesting how it is clear to see the role geography has played in the development of both ancient and modern civilizations.
Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world?
Anywhere that my children would find fun! That is a bit tongue in cheek. But at the same time, when the kids are happy, it allows me and my wife to sit back, relax, and enjoy the same pleasures.
What’s the best part about working at VTR Learning?
Working in an environment that allows us to forge our own paths. We allow our team the freedom to run with their own ideas and work on projects they believe will benefit the company. Although some objectives led to dead ends, others have taken us in directions we would never have envisioned had we not jumped right in. I feel this liberty promotes loyalty and dedication in a workforce, as well as a sense of pride and ownership.
What’s the Rest of the Team Saying?
Undoubtedly, working with the VTR Learning team is something that inspires growth in every member, personally and professionally. And while each individual shares some things in common with the others, each also has their own goals, aspirations, and interests.
